Strange behavior with display

Post by cardanoc » 04 Apr 2022, 20:30

Hi

I took some images with SharpCap of the sun in Ca light.

I processed them with AutoStakkert. A PNG file was produced.

When displayed with Microsoft Photo, a nice sharp solar edge can be seen.

When I open it same image in Astro Art, I cannot see the edge of the sun.

I there any explanation for this? Please see both photos.

Thank you.

I think astroart is giving a better rendition of the tonal gradations in the image. MS photo is probably down-sampling to 8bits.

Hi, the image is 16 bits (range = 4 .. 53459) so it can be visualized in several ways.

I think that you can emulate the visualization of Microsoft Photo pressing SHIFT + F3, which sets the 0 .. 65535 visualization.

Or press the mouse wheel, then rotate it to adjust the black level in real time. Or use the cursors.
