different resolutions

Post by Morten Lerager » 21 Mar 2022, 09:09

Hi'
Using same telescope but two different camera. One with 12MP the other 24,1MP
Sensor size same crop. I gess FOV must be near the same.
But can I stack them in any way.
Maybe by using preprocess > extra > resize ?
Stack one as usual and the other with resize. Combine later on ?
Or how to do it :?:

Some times it helps to read the manual :)
I will try "coregister" but I gess it could be better to down scale by bin 2 first.

Hi Morten, at first I suggest to decide which will be the resolution of the final image. That will indicate which image will remain unprocessed and which one will be scaled.

As you wrote it's also possible to use the comand Coregister, this will work well.
If the difference in scale is not very high (for example +- 30%) it's also possible to select the image to be scaled and use the command Image/Align with option Scale. If it's exactly 50% (for example combining a binning 2x2 with binning 1x1) just Image/Resize then Align.

To combine the images, use the command Arithmetic/Average, the weighted average in real time will help you the stack better the images if their quality is different.
Fabio.
