Slew to star

Post by Forum_2015 »

I am new to AA5 having had it for only a few weeks with little time to try it out.

Tonight for the first time, even though it was totally cloudy, I decided to check out the link between AA5 and EQascom on my NEQ6 Pro mount.

I first entered CAPELLA in the search field but it wouldn't slew. It asked for dec (I think - I didn't make a note). I then entered M 31 and it slewed as expected.

Why was CAPELLA not accepted automatically presumably taking its position from the star catalogue?

Thank you for any help.

Hi,
there is not a catalog of star names in the Camera Interface 5.41, but it you would be a nice addition for an upgrade.
A workaround can be a custom catalog, opened from the GOTO page of the Telescope window:

< MyStars.txt >

"Capella" 5.278167 +46.00972
"Betelgeuse" 5.919528 +7.41167
"Vega" 18.615639 +38.80278

Tony, if you install Stellarium planetarium and Stellarium Scope (both free) you can use them to goto stars.

Hi Facavi,

I thought as much. Thank you for the work around. You are right in that it would be a good addition for an upgrade. I would use it to GoTo a star and focus before imaging the object I require.

Hi Iver,

Thank you for the reply. I actually use Cartes du Ciel for that purpose because it doesn't need the extra piece of software to interface with EQascom. What I want to do is to use Astroart to plate solve and then centre on a bright star for focusing.
