AVI files

I tried to preprocess an AVI file and I got an incompatible file error. Does AA5 support processing of AVI files?

They are supported, using the Windows AVI stream API. This means that decoding is possible only if the format is recognized by Windows (maybe installing some optional coders could solve the problem).

Windows Media Player uses another API, so it may able to show the video even if the Windows API does not support it.

I have the same problem with some TIFF files too. Next time I'm out I will switch the code type the camera saves it as. I will say that I have tried all the AP processing programs and like AA5 the best. Granted I spent only a month or so using the others but if it takes me longer than that to figure out a program then it probably needs to be streamlined better.
I would give a sample file but it gives me the invalid file type when trying to upload it here.

Yes, changing the saving subformat of the AVI could solve the problem. TIFF LZW compressed are not supported. Use always PNG as a generic interchange format.

Well I thought I had it figured out. AA5 will open and process on my laptop but not on my desk top. Both are running windows 7 and the only difference I can find is that I have not updated AA5 to SP4. I'll update it and see what happens.

I changed the compatibility mode to windows XP and now all works. One question..what is the difference in the applications Astroart 5.0, Astroart500 and AstroartLAA64?

Strange, I thought that the laptop had the extra codec. It could be preinstalled by some media software, or by the webcam software.

The LAA versions supports more memory on Windows 64. Google: Large Address Aware
