Re: UCAC5 - Any users?

Well, the UCAC4 was already very good, with its precision better than 0.07 arcseconds. The version available of the UCAC5: ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/pub/cats/I/340/UCAC5/u5z/ contains the same 107 million stars, the difference is just a further precision thanks to re-reduction with the Gaia data, as...

Re: plate solve failure

Hi, I think that only an image (JPEG is fine) could solve the mystery. If the images are oversampled and produce stars wider than 15 pixels, then the Service Pack 3 or 4 is required to correctly plate solve them.
The M57 image has a different format, its field is 12 arcminutes.

Re: plate solve failure

Hi, which "horizontal field" did you set in the Find Coordinate window?

Before using plate solve for centering and syncing, you need to set and save the horizontal field in the Find Coordinates window, using an old image. If you like post an image to verify.

Re: removing the bright sun from an image

Using masks, the procedure is the same of graphical programs (for example Gimp). 1) Open the mask window. Place the mouse cursor at position 465,943 (these are the Left and Top coordinates of the sun, they can be measured moving the mouse there) and use the Ellipse tool to draw the mask on the disk....

Re: removing the bright sun from an image

Hi, it can be done both via image processing and via masks. Here are a couple of examples: 1) Make a duplicate of the image (F2) then Filter / Histogram Stretch to attenuate the prominences and keep only the disk. If the image is 8 bit write "255" as New Range. Apply, then OK. FilterStep1.jpg 2) Fil...

Updated Canon plugin

Hello, an updated plugin for Canon camera is available:
http://www.msb-astroart.com/
this just supports the new cameras released in the last 6 months. If your camera is already supported there's no need to upgrade.

CCD vs CMOS

An interesting video about CCD vs CMOS, made by Atik :

Astroart 6 is used to analyze the difference between the two sensors.

Re: Remote, How to hide Camera Control and Script Editor

Hello, the AA_SCRIPT_HIDE is still not implemented, so it can be added in Service Pack 5 this september. Please write by email for the prerelease. About starting on second monitor, this can be added too.

Re: ucac 4

Hi, the horizontal size of several Messier images (M63, 67, 81, etc.) is 13.5 arcminutes. There's a mini tutorial with the M67 image in the Help about "Find coordinates".

Calibration pulses for AO in SP4

Hello, as written in the thread about the SP4 release, if you use an AO, remember to decrease in the Guide Options the duration of the calibration pulses, from 800 to 500 ms, otherwise the AO limits may be reached during the calibration itself:
